Forest Path Shawl

In June, a group of us got together at Lori's to start a summer project. Lead by Athena, we all casted on to make the Forest Path Shawl. (the best pictures I have found on a finished Forest Path Shawl can be found here)

The start was a little slow going, getting comfortable with the pattern, the charts, and some of us had to also get acquainted with lace weight yarn as well......but everyone seems to be progressing each of us at our own pace.

After the first tier the shawl starts to take shape and you can see the different panels start to work together.

Athena is now working on the border and on the home stretch. Seeing a Forest Path Shawl in person is enough to keep us all motivated and inspired to continue our journey.

Stay tuned for updates and postings of finished projects. This is a project that is engaging, at times challenging, still very rewarding as it starts to develop through your hands.

First Class in Series "For The Home"

On Saturday the 28th of March and 4th of April 2009 Lori's Frames, Fibers & Frills will be hosting the first in a series of classes titled "For the Home". Local knitter, Stephanie Turner will be presenting the first of her designs in a class titled "The Easter Collection" featuring Bunnies, Chicks and Ducks with an adorable felted Basket.

The basket is felted then embellished using a needle felting technique. The plushy Bunnie, Chick and Duck are knitted in the round using a variety of techniques, Magic Loop, Two Circular Needles and/or DP Needles.

Sunday Knit Group

The Sunday Knitters enjoyed a warmer Sunday than we have had in the last few weeks. Some WIPs were shared and a few finished projects were modeled.

Nancy was wearing her Neck Down Hooded Tunic by Knitting Pure and Simple. Nancy used a variegated Cascade Alpaca. Nancy shared that she really enjoyed knitting this because the instructions were well written making this one of the easiest projects. (Nancy is a prolific knitter and she thought this would suit a newer knitter)

Nancy was also putting the finishing touches on a shawl that she is making up for her mother. The Ethereal Grace Stole is turning out beautifully knitted in the Kollage Creamy yarn. Creamy is made from 80% Milk and 20% Cotton. You have to feel this yarn to believe how soft it is and telling someone that the yarn is made of Milk will make any project a conversational piece.

Jeanne is working on a Rowan Pattern - Nessa using a Felted Tweed doubled. It is working up quickly and Jeanne reports that the yarn she substituted with is working out great. (Finally she is knitting something for herself!)

Lori is modeling the Just Enough Ruffles Scarf she made last Saturday out of just two balls of the Zaol - Lady Cashmere. She made it in one day and the color is so vibrant and stunning against a black sweater. After knitting the scarf Lori used Soak and the scarf softened more and really drapes nicely.

Suzie (that would be me) is going to copy Lori and make a scarf just like it for a gift. Who can't use a ONE DAY project in their arsenal as a backup for a last minute gift?

Lori's Frames, Fibers & Frills is a small cottage store located in Alpine, California just 7 miles east of El Cajon, five minutes off Highway 8. If you are visiting in the San Diego area, our shop is about 40 minutes east from the Downtown area.

In addition to being your full service Local Yarn Shop, we also offer Custom Framing and Matting to suit any decor. The "Frills" includes a wide range of unique gifts to suit anyone throughout the year.

Knitting and Crochet is our passion however. The goal of this shop is to ensure that every customer has success in completing their projects with support and help as needed. You won't have to worry about add on costs to your projects as help is available and free for our customers during our operating hours.

Wednesday evenings we offer Knit Nights until 8pm where everyone is welcome to sit on the Patio and enjoy the evening with a growing group of Knitters and Crocheters for light conversation and sharing. This is free and no prearrangement is needed.

Sunday afternoon we have an Open Knitting group. Come by and work on projects, just bring your knit bag and join in.

This blog will be our open window into the store's activities. We will be posting all the store news, new arrivals of yarns, books and upcoming class schedules.
