DIY Yarn Holder Project

Our guest blogger is Ellen and she is sharing her DIY yarn holder.

There are many fabulous ideas for DIY yarn holders all over the web.  Here is how I make my humble holder.  I use large plastic containers with screw-on lids and also oatmeal containers.  One advantage to this re-purposed mixed nut container is that the lid is more secure than the plastic snap-on oatmeal container lids.

To make a hole in the lid, I used a 3/8" drill bit and then enlarged the hole with a rat tail file to fit the 1/2" grommet.  Any size and type of grommet can be used but I've had this grommet kit hanging around for years so why not use what it available for free?  The inner edge is smooth and does not snag the yarn.

The finished project fits a good size ball of yarn and travels securely in my yarn bag.

This re-purposed oatmeal container holds multiple balls of yarn.

The containers can be left plain or gussied up - it's up to you!

Thank you for letting me share this project -

Ellen

Meet the Shop Bunny

Say hello to our shop bunny!  This cutie is made from one square of knitted fabric using a pattern found at HeartStrings FiberArts

Shop bunny is super-sized and created from  Kertz’s Dream 100 % polyamide yarn.  Any yarn works for this project – it is perfect for those annoying swatches!  Imagine a reason to swatch to an honest size.  Each bunny only requires a square and a 4” by 4” square creates the cutest baby bunny – perfect for gift toppers.

Two New Shop Samples

Here are two shop samples modeled by our lovely Janeva (she looks great in everything!)

This knitted cap is made with James C. Brett ARIA
This yarn worked up very nicely and it looks like there may be enough left to make another cap!

This scarf is made with James C. Brett Star Lites and took about an hour to create.  Super Easy!  You can see a video on how to knit with this yarn under the FIBERS tab of this blog.  There are other fun colors available.

Thank You Janeva!
